Michiru Kita

Michiru Kita has the ability to see rings around people's neck when the time of their deaths is near. The rings start out gray and turn darker until the person dies when the ring is black. Zombies are identified by their black rings.

She isn't too fond of her ability since it brings back memories of when she saw the rings around her parents' necks, and suppresses the ability by wearing glasses. After they died she was taken in by her aunt who was only interested in taking part in Michiru's inheritance which her parents left for her, but she could only access when she was old enough.

Michiru sees Shito and Chika's black rings and tries to warn them because she believes they will die very soon, she doesn't know that it has already happened and they are zombies. After her warning Shito and Chika discover her ability and use Michiru to help them find illegal zombies to hunt.

Michiru has a near death experience which she knew was coming after seeing her own black ring. At first she hid in her room depressed, but later decided to face her fate. However, after becoming indebt to Z-Loan, she was saved without having to become a zombie. That's how she became part of the team trying to repay her debt at Z-Loan.

Other than seeing the black rings, Michiru can also understand Chibi Zarame who speaks in squeaks. During the first 11 episodes it is not revealed why Michiru has those abilities and what connections she may have with reapers, since she has the eyes of a reaper.

Another mystery is what was done to heal Michiru. Yuuta claimed that he could not save her. However, Michiru was saved and continued living as a human indebt to Z-Loan. That a human was able to survive erasing her black ring, without becoming a zombie, doesn't seem like something that happens too often, and it makes look like that Michiru is a special case in more ways than one.

Why Michiru has no Black Ring (as defined by Manga volumes 1 and 2)

Michiru could be saved for a price, but it was really expensive. She was dying but not quite dead. "A zombie is one thing but a living human can't take ectoplasm" (Yuuta). Initially, Chika doesn't want to help because it is extremely expensive, but Shito talks him into it because having Shinigami Eyes would be helpful. "Sure, if we save her, our debt will grow a little, but with our upped efficiency at hunting zombies, it'll shortcut us right back to paying it all off" (Shito).

The boys allow her to keep her money but put her to work in every aspect so that she can help them pay off their debt because they saved her. Essentially Shito and Chika extended their contracts so Michiru could live.

We only ever see Yuuta heal zombies, he actually states he can't heal her because humans can't take ectoplasm. This would make her on the verge of death, but Yuuta notes how bad it is. Since she was not quite dead, it would cost extra to keep her alive because how close she was to dying. Chika and Shito surmise she has almost five minutes but Bekkou disagrees saying he doesn't even give her three. Her death depends on Shito and Chika. She decides she wants to live and Bekkou makes it happen. "For just a liiiittle money, I changed your destiny" (Bekkou). Shito and Chika took the contract for that so Michiru is not a monster or zombie and is very much alive. Her body died more or less it seems (at least in her mind). But Shito and Chika paid the price to distort Fate.
