Shito & Chika

Shito and Chika

Shito and Chika are partners, even if it is not by choice. Because they need to stay close so that their hands won't rot off, they have been interacting since the beginning of the series. I (Mikari) don't ship them, but I think they will become closer as friends as the series progresses.

Their personalities are quite different from each other, which often causes disagreements. Shito is serious, while Chika is laid back. Shito tends to speak formally addressing people by their last name and that is something that Chika doesn't like. Shito refuses to call him by his first name, unless it's in an extreme situation when Chika is being stubborn, and even then, Shito does not like to be "dominated."

When they argue, Shito and Chika deny being friends, but Chika sometimes proves the opposite and so does Shito in a quieter way. They're stuck together and making the best of it. They have learned to get along and support each other even if they still deny it.

Chika trusts people more easily than Shito, though he is bothered by Shito being "cold" to him, he proves that he does rely on Shito. After Shiba was seemingly reaped Chika asked Shito to, "lend me your back" and leaned on him to which Shito commented he was heavy. They had been through some harsh battles and could still stand; hence I (Mikari) believe that this was more metaphorical than physical.

Chika was asking for Shito's support though at that point, before meeting Golem-chan, Shito had not yet started to truly open up to his friends. Thus Chika made it so Shito could express his support in a way that didn't require words, by allowing Chika to lean on him. His response also felt metaphorical. Shito is someone who has a mysterious past, but from what can be gathered, it's safe to say he has suffered painful losses, so he known how "heavy" that can feel. Later after they return to the dorms and Chika is lonely, he goes to Shito for comfort again.

Shito & Golem-chan

Shito and Golem-chan

When we first see interaction between them, Shito believes that Golem-chan is going to attack him with scissors. He struggles beneath her and much to his surprise she changes his bandages. He quickly figures out that she is the one who had cared for his wounds in the first place.

Still annoyed by the situation he mumbles about the sad/pathetic way she bandaged wounds. Golem-chan cannot talk, but seems to be very kind and somewhat misguided in her caring for Shito. She chokes him with water when she tries to give him a drink and is rather forceful with moldy bread as she tries to feed him.

Throughout episodes 9 to 11 the two become close. In some sense Shito can identify with the young girl who was created and has only lived in death. In the battle against Phalanx even his comrades note how much Shito seems to care for Golem-chan. They take to fighting and tell Shito to do what he needs too.

This is one of the first instances that Shito shows what could be considered love. He is willing to go out of his way to care for this girl. After saving her from Phalanx he makes her promises. He will talk to the chair person to get her a room, she can be enrolled in school, and he will even teach her to talk. Shito, the whole time as he speaks those promises, is combing her hair with his most precious item, his mother's comb.

Only Ohtsu knows that her body cannot sustain itself but before he has to break the news to anyone, tragedy befalls our pair. Golem-chan dies in Shito's arms, shot by Nogi by surprise. Shito is heartbroken and after beating Nogi he asks to put Golem-chan to rest, "I will guide her." This is the only instance in the anime when we see Shito tmourn or grieve for the departed so openly.

This is my (Snow) OTP in Zombie Loan. I think this couple could work, had Golem-chan survived, Shito would have taken very good care of her. The only problem is that this relationship seemed doomed to fail if it went on for long term. Despite that, it does not change the fact that Golem-chan opened Shito's heart and he felt something for her. She clearly liked him and wanted to take care of him too.

Shito & Michiru

Shito and Michiru

Shito and Michiru don't interact too much at first, in comparison to Chika and Michiru, Michiru and other characters. Shito got used to calling her Miss Kita, or Kita-san, which annoys Chika who prefers a less formal atmosphere. Later when he first called her by her first name it came as a surprise to her.

An important item in the friendship of Shito and Michiru is Shito's comb, his precious treasure. Michiru "accidentally" takes the comb from Shito's room while delivering laundry, (she was distracter while holding it), later, when she apologizes and returns it, Shito very upset. Something important to him was taken without permission, his space has been invaded. Soon after, Shito is kidnapped by Chainsaw, leading to the Yoshizumi, Phalanx and Golem-chan ordeal.

During that time Shito opens up thanks to Golem-chan and also starts to trust his friends more. Afterwards he asks Michiru to hold on to his comb. Shito is protective of his mother's memento and had yelled at Michiru for taking it before until she cried. Willingly asking her to keep it for him shows significant progress in his trust. I (Mikari) don't think there's anything besides friendship going on between them from what I've seen so far.

Shiba & Chika

Shiba and Chika

Chika and Shiba knew each other before Chika's accident that turned him into a zombie. They went to the same middle school and were good friends. For Shiba life was boring after Chika left, so boring he committed suicide. When they found each other again, Chika was happy to see his friend, but Shiba was secretly an illegal zombie and the assassin "Butterfly", Chika and Shito were trying.

Needless to say Chika was quite disappointed and shocked when he found out the truth, but he still refused to let Shito shoot Shiba, getting injured himself to stop him. Until the end of their confrontation, Chika held to some hope of changing Shiba for the better, and saved him from falling off the rooftop of the building they were fighting in. However, Shiba refused to listen to Chika and let himself fall, consequently being reaped by Zarame as far as Chika knew at the time.

Chika and Shiba were friends; they ended up placed as enemies, but Chika still held some hope. Overall, Shiba had betrayed Chika's trust, but there's a chance Chika might still forgive him. As far as the anime goes, Shiba stole Zarame's core, became a reaper and joined ARRC, but Chika has not seen him again since their battle on the roof.

It seems that Shiba might have liked Chika in the past, though the extent of his feelings is not revealed. Perhaps it is something that not even Shiba himself fully understands. However, Chika makes he known in the manga that he doesn't swing that way. As for the anime, he shows friendship towards Shiba but nothing beyond that. Thus I (Mikari) don't think that they'll ever be closer than friends, perhaps they will be driven further apart by Shiba's actions. As for their feelings, in my (Mikari) opinion if there was ever a sort of like-like, it was one-sided from Shiba, who wasn't fully aware of it.

Michiru & Yomi

Michiru and Yomi

Yomi can be awakened by "Michiru's Kiss" according to Bekko, though Michiru is unclear on the details. Upon being woken up Yomi usually starts to fondle Michiru, much to her displeasure. The first time Michiru mistakes her for Koyomi, since they share a body, but Yomi has a distinctly different personality, less bubbly and more forward then Koyomi.

Not all of their meetings are bad. Michiru calls for Yomi's help when she is in trouble and Yomi happily goes to the rescue and protects her. Later Michiru thanks her and it greatly shocks Yomi that someone is so thankful to have her help.

Most of their meetings seem to be lust filled on Yomi's part. She doesn't quite understand that Michiru doesn't like to be felt up randomly. It is against her wishes that Yomi is somewhat forceful. When push comes to shove Michiru has to react back and says she doesn't like it. Yomi is clearly shocked.

I (Snow) do not think that Yomi realizes differences between caring and lust. She seems to think that because Michiru was thankful that there is more to their relationship. I am not quite sure if this couple could work, it really could go either way. If Yomi were not so forceful then Michiru might open up. However, if Yomi persists in manners that hurt or make Michiru uncomfortable (as she has a habit of) then no it would not work out.

In addition, Michiru doesn't really seem to be concerned with relationships, at least not dating. She really hasn't had any solid friends before now. Michiru does seem to have a friendship with Koyomi and knows when she can rely on Yomi to help her, other than that, I (Snow) would think that Michiru is a little too dense.

Sotetsu & Koyomi

Sotetsu and Koyomi Sotetsu and Koyomi

The beginning of their interaction leaves a lot to be interpreted. When eating at the dorms Koyomi asks Sotetsu if he wants more rice, he accepts and hands her his bowl. She blushes and seems shy and very happy that he said yes. Michiru notices something, but isn't sure what it was. Sotetsu seems a little more concerned about other things going on at the time.

Sotetsu doesn't seem uninterested in Koyomi, and he doesn't particularly seem to have any loves except for food. If Koyomi can cook, I (Snow) don't see why Sotetsu wouldn't stick around. The only real problem is Yomi. I do not think she'd be too happy to find out Koyomi was dating Sotetsu. Yomi seems to have a loathing of men, or at least is greatly aggravated by them.

In the OVA Koyomi is confronted about her feelings for Sotetsu by Michiru and reveals that one night Koyomi got drunk on Fantan and vaguely remembers hitting on Sotetsu. She doesn't remember anything in the middle, but when she woke up the two were in bed together naked. Afterwards, Sotetsu always treated her the same so she had a hard time confronting him. She also has a hard time looking him in the face. But she mentions there is someone else she likes.

Michiru is actually relieved to hear that Koyomi and Sotetsu are not an item, vaguely wonders about Yomi's feelings for Sotetsu and otherwise seems to just be getting upset over the idea of anyone having feelings for Sotetsu.

The entire situation makes me (Mikari) wonder if the reason why Yomi dislikes men is because of that apparent one night stand with Sotetsu, after which he didn't bring it up again. However, the extent of what happened between them is yet to be fully revealed. I think they have a lot to sort through but maybe there's a chance this couple might work. However, they won't progress until someone speaks up.
